Currently, the members of the Forestry Technology Scientific/Skill Group (KK TK) consist of 15 lecturers who are divided into 3 areas of scientific competence/expertise, namely 1) Forest structure and function; 2) Silviculture technology and 3) Forest product processing technology. The scope of research in the three areas of competence includes:
- Forest structure and function: carbon stock calculation, nutrient cycling, relationship between environment and tree growth, extent, quality, and changes in forest cover.
- Silviculture technology: development of genetic materials for commercial tree species, development of succession management, intensive silviculture systems and development of low-cost or low-cost silviculture systems.
- Forest product processing technology: improving the quality and durability of wood products, improving the modification of raw materials for wood and non-wood forest products and diversifying other forest products.
In order to support the development of forestry science and technology in Indonesia, several research results in the three fields of competence mentioned above were presented at the Sewindu KK TK event on January 12, 2021 with the theme “Building Research-Based Forestry”.
TK members are also involved in education and teaching activities through lecturer teaching assignments in several courses as well as mentoring student final assignments in the forestry engineering undergraduate study program, post-harvest technology undergraduate study program, biology undergraduate, master and doctoral study programs and biomanagement master study program. In the field of community service, the role of KK-TK members has been felt especially by the people of eight villages located around the Gunung Geulis ITB Education forest and the people in seven villages in Cibugel District, Sumedang Regency through bio-energy training, bamboo utilization training, coffee processing training and others. In the aspect of forest product processing technology, several training on wood processing and preservation for furniture makers have been given to furniture makers around the Ganesa campus. Some of the innovative products of lecturers of the TK KK members have been utilized by the community such as bamboo charcoal making tools, bamboo lamination felt machines, coffee fruit drying tools and bamboo drying tools in collaboration with PT. Spedagi in Temanggung Regency, Central Java. All aspects of research, education/teaching, and community service are directed towards achieving the vision of KK-TK in 2013-2021, namely “Increasing Productivity and Efficiency of Forests and Forest Products”.
In order to improve cooperation networks and increase the capacity of lecturers who are members of the TK, upgrading activities have been carried out. The upgrading activities were carried out using the online discussion method in the July-August 2021 period with industry experts and practitioners from BRIN, IPB University, PT Spedagi and PT Sinar Mas. Efforts to increase cooperation networks and increase the capacity of lecturers of TK members are also carried out with colleagues abroad through the implementation of the Visiting Professor On this occasion, TK has invited Prof. Dr. Kenji Umemura from the Laboratory of Sustainable Materials, Research Institute for Sustainable Humanosphere (RISH), Kyoto University, Japan Research Institute for Sustainable Humanosphere ( RISH), Kyoto University, Japan as VP. VP activities are carried out online with three agendas Open Webinar dengan tema “The Development of Environmentally Friendly Adhesive and New Wood-Based Material” ‘ on October 29, 2021 with students, lecturers, researchers and wood industry practitioners as participants, Guest Lecture with the themeCurrent Condition of Wood and Adhesive Industries in Japan and How to Write Scientific Paperon November 8, 2021 with ITB student participants and Sharing Session with the themeResearch Collaboration Sharing Sessionon November 12, 2021 with lecturer participants of TK members. This VP activity is also the closing of a series of activities from the KK TK work program in 2021.
