Hybrid Plywood Products for Earthquake Resistant House Components

A five-layer hybrid plywood is made based on coconut fiber arrangement (woven fibermats and random fiberwoven fibre mats dan serat acak/non-woven fibre matsHybridization of coconut fibers with jabon wood veneer using phenol formaldehyde resin improved the dimensional stability and mechanical properties of the plywood, such as density, thickness development, bending, and screw holding power, especially for hybrid plywood using random fiber arrangement. This product is a raw material for lightweight walls and ceilings in houses that are resistant to earthquake shocks. The utilization of coconut fiber waste as raw material for earthquake-resistant house components can be a solution to the problem of house/building safety in Indonesia. It is expected that this product can be developed by analyzing technical and economic feasibility so that it can be produced on an industrial scale and compete with commercial wall and ceiling products.
